October News

Teacher’s Message

We have had a great first month of school and are finished with all of our beginning of the year assessments. Students are being sent home slips that have their current reading level and what they will need to do as a reader to advance to the next reading level.

Our character trait for the month of October is RESPONSIBILITY. To practice being responsible students should be responsible for completing and working on their own homework and completing assignments on time. Students can also practice responsibility by taking responsibility or ownership, for their actions both positive and negative. Congratulations to our September Student of the Month Isaura Vazquez for showing excellent RESPECT all month long!

If you have any questions or concerns please call me

I look forward to working with you to ensure your child’s success.

Curriculum

We are starting our Science Unit on Pebbles, Sand, and Silt. During this unit we will explore Earth Science and the Scientific Process in conjunction with the unit vocabulary.

In literacy, we are continuing to focus on nonfiction text for the first half of the month and then we will be making meaning of fictional text. Currently, we are writing friendly letters. We are going to write and send our published friendly letter to a company explaining how much we like one of their products. We are hoping to get responses back from each letter sent!

Our review portion of the math has concluded and we are learning the more challenging features of addition and subtraction. This month we will also be focusing on place value to 100, graphing and data, as well as mental addition and subtraction. We will begin our class math races. Students expected to practice the addition and subtraction facts from 0 to 20. Students will have 4 minutes to complete the test. Testing is on Thursday or Friday.
